From The President’s Desk:
Four weeks ago, the Primitive Methodist Church in the USA had their 136th Annual Conference sessions at the Sandy Cove Conference Center in Northeast Maryland. This issue of Notes and News will give us an overview of this session.
By His Grace, Rev. Kerry Robert Ritts,
President
Conference Highlights
1. The following items will be part of our District Superintendent (DS) job description:
- The DS shall visit our pastors and churches at least annually for encouragement, fact-finding, counseling, prayer, and further oversight.
- The DS shall provide for a yearly planning meeting with pastors within their district for the purpose of growth, outreach projects, new church plants, church redevelopments, and other such plans within the district. This is not to be held at the same time as the existing district meeting.
- The DS will meet annually with our executive council to report on their district, churches, pastors, and strategic plans for the future.
2. The Executive Council and the Budget Committee will study the feasibility of holding conference sessions biannually. A report will be given at the 2009 conference session.
3. The following name was given for a possible name for our denomination- “The Methodist Church of America” (MCA). This was defeated by a 54% to 46% vote.
4. The Executive Council will be studying and reporting at our next conference the recommendation of incorporating an intern program that would make college and seminary students available to our churches to serve under experienced pastors.
The following guests were introduced and granted a voice and vote at our sessions:
- Rev. Victor Perez (President), Rev. Antonio Delgado (Vice President), and Rev. Juan Par (Director- Utatlan School) from our Guatemala Conference.
- Rev. Luis and Mireya Rodriquez, Rev. Fidel Lorenzo, and Rev. Leopold Ramirez from the Dominican Republic.
The International Mission Board requests that the conference in the Dominican Republic be recognized as a district conference body.
Missionary Rev. Ron Anderson, ECMI, spoke to the conference about mission work in Europe and Guatemala.
A memorial service was held to honor the memory of the pastors and wives who have served the Primitive Methodist Conference over the past decade.
The National Mission Board held a service of recognition for the Bridge Community Church in Portage, IN. Congratulations as they are now a self-supported church.
Pocono Mountain Bible Conference reported a good year with many young people accepting Jesus as their Savior. Many weeks were filled last year, so they are encouraging you to get your reservations in early. NOTE: Due to higher than expected contractor bids for the new gymnasium, it was decided to wait until more funds can be raised for this project.
Special Guests
Guest Speaker: Rev. Mounce, from PeaceMakers, was our Bible study speaker. Rev. Mounce gave us a very good understanding on why conflict occurs and how we as Christians are to apply Biblical principals in bringing about peace.
Guest Musician: After our Tuesday evening Communion service, we worshipped God through the music ministry of the Duffields. We were truly blessed and uplifted.
Guest Comedian: Rev. Gordon Douglas had us all in tears as we laughed together. Some say they hadn’t laughed like that for years.
Our President, Rev. Kerry R. Ritts, shared his Presidential address from the scripture references John 6 and Mark 6 entitled, “The Lessons of the Loaves.” We were challenged to remember God’s principle, “Little in the hands of Jesus can become much.” We have a mighty God who can and wants to work through us even though we are a small denomination with small churches. He brings the increase!
This year’s conference dealt with some “tough” issues. I would like to thank the Pastors and delegates for a job “well done!” Though we might have disagreed on some items, we came through all of our discussions “unbruised” as a conference. Thank you for displaying a Christ-like attitude in our discussion and respect for one another. (Hebrews 13:1 “Keep on loving each other…”)
Thank you: We would like to thank all boards and committee members for their dedication and commitment to God’s ministry and growing His church within the Primitive Methodist Church. Your ministries keep the denomination running smoothly. Thank you for your services and for your love to Jesus Christ.
The Annual Primitive Methodist Conference did ordain Rev. Rich Rock and Rev. Nathan Doyle into the Christian ministry.

Pittsburgh District
Merritt PM Church had a Blessing of the Bikes on June 1st. This was a major outreach event with the community and local emergency personnel. The youth group led the worship and also performed a salvation drama.
Frost Road Chapel will have several exciting Summer outreach opportunities beginning with a Photo Scavenger Hunt on June 8th. Along with the fun of gathering photos of the items represented in the clues, we will be handing out invitation cards to those we meet up with. In July we will have a booth at Streetsboro Family Days featuring our VBS theme "Outrigger Island". We will hand out free drinks and candy along with flyers about our VBS, Youth Group, Pioneers and upcoming events at FRC, plus a pamphlet about our Church. This runs for four days. Immediately following Family Days, we will hold VBS. Please keep our Church family and our outreach projects in your prayers.
Schuylkill District
We have finished a very active May at the St. Clair Church. We had a special Mother's Day program when all women present were honored as role models. Following our Conference, we had another Game Night. This was one of our best-attended outreach programs. Our 'Circle of Friends' women's ministry had their Mother and Daughter Banquet, a special time when the men of the church serve the meal and do the dishes. We had our monthly Prayer Breakfast, and enjoyed a pancake breakfast with our time of prayer. The Men's Fellowship had their meeting, and enjoyed watching a baseball game, with the thoughts of soon going to Reading to watch a Phillies game. We had our Singles, Widows, and Widowers Dinner, with many invited friends attending. This has been a new method of outreach. We are in the planning stages for our DVBS, which will be early June. We also have had a successful Adult class in the evening. During the month of June, we will be striving to become more community oriented, and find ways to serve others.
Wyoming District
Blakely PM Church will be hosting a Life Line Screening in August as an outreach to the community. We would appreciate your prayers for those who will be coming for the screenings and the opportunity we will have to meet them and share God's word where possible.
Pocono Mountain Bible Conference
Greetings from the Pocono Mountain Bible Conference,
As I type this, we are just a few short weeks away from the beginning of our Summer Camping Season. We are looking forward to hosting many children during this year's camping sessions. If your children, ages 8-18 are interested in camping, please get their forms to us as early as you can. Last Summer, we ran out of room for "Walk-Ons" during each of the last three camping weeks. Forms and other important camping information can be found on our website at www.CampPMBC.com.
Andrea and I have enjoyed serving at PMBC for the past five years. It has been extremely exciting to watch as God has blessed the camp in ways that we could not have predicted or imagined. We have watched as countless lives have been drawn into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. We have been encouraged to see believers grow in their faith. We have enjoyed the process of improving the camp facilities and making PMBC a desirable place for groups to host retreats throughout the year.
Five years ago, God asked my wife and I to take a step of faith and begin directing the camp during a very difficult time in its history. Now that the ministry has turned around, we believe that we have accomplished the work that God set out for us to do. We have decided to begin a gradual transition back into full-time pastoral ministry, over the course of the next 12 months. During this coming year, I would like to train a new Director to lead PMBC into the next stage of its development. This is a step of faith for my family, but we believe that this is what God is calling us to do and we want to be obedient. Please be in prayer for us as we wait on God for His leading and direction.
The PMBC Board is now accepting applications for the Director position. If God is leading you or someone you know to apply, please send a resume / vision for the ministry to the Vice President of the PMBC Board, Rev. Tyler Parry. You can email your vision to Rev. Parry's email address: thedicksoncitychurch@gmail.com or you can mail it to:
Rev. Tyler Parry
516 Jackson St.
Dickson City, PA 18519-1435
Thank you for your prayers and your support of the ministry of PMBC. Please pray about becoming a monthly donor to this ministry. We truly need as much help as we can to keep accomplishing the work of God here on this mountain.
Sincerely,
Rev. John Stange
PMBC Director
